Individuals wishing to reside in the Malden area will find that the cost to maintain a comfortable lifestyle is well within reason and that the lifestyle is very family oriented.  Malden offers the average middle-class family an opportunity to be able to afford to buy a house and still have the extras in life.

Malden has churches of all denominations, various civic clubs, and sponsors a Fireworks Show for the Fourth of July.  For the youth, Malden has Girl Scout and Boy Scout Organizations and a variety of sports.

Malden’s recreation options include: seven public parks, tennis courts, baseball/softball fields, a nine hole public golf course and a Country Club with a private golf course and pool.    Both courses host several golf tournaments. The Malden Speedway is a dirt, stock-car racetrack located immediately North of the Malden city limits which holds race events every Friday night from April through October each year. The Malden Chamber of Commerce organizes several parades and other activities throughout the year.  There is a fairgrounds with stage located on the Malden Industrial Park.

A modern RV parking facility is located on the Malden Industrial park and has easy access to the golf courses, swimming pool, tennis courts, ballfields and a public park area.  The RV Park has full hookups at each of its 22 sites for electric, water, and waste dumping. Malden is close to other recreation areas such as several public access rivers, wildlife refuges and to Wappapello Lake, an 8,400 acre lake managed by the Corps of Engineers, which offers fishing, boating, hiking, camping and rental cabins.

Malden has three large grocery stores and shopping that serves residents from the rural area surrounding Malden and smaller towns in the vicinity.  Malden's shopping options have steadily increased over the past several years.  In addition to numerous local stores, Malden has a Wal-Mart, two Casey’s, Amerimart, McDonalds, Hardees, Kentucky Fried Chicken/Taco Bell and Pizza Hut (list not all inclusive).

The Malden Airport Inn (573-276-5144) is located on Highway 25 adjacent to the main entrance of the Malden Airport and Industrial Park.  The Malden Airport Inn currently has twenty-eight rooms and meeting facilities.  When the facility was built in 1989, additional ground was purchased for the possibility of future expansions.  The Malden Airport Inn is owned and managed by a group of citizens who saw a need for a motel and formed a committee to construct a quality facility. The latest project for the Malden Investment Corporation is a new, upscale subdivision on "J" Highway called Bradford Place.

Malden Army Airfield Preservation Society (MAAPS)- This organization works to preserve the past of the Malden Army Airfield and currently is working on the development of a museum and the construction of a veterans memorial on the industrial park.Anyone interested in this can visit the website for more information.

Malden Airport Inn

The Malden Community Center has meeting rooms that will accommodate 10 to 700 people and banquet facilities with a seating capacity of 400 people.  Some of the activities and services available at the Malden Community Center include: the MO Division of Employment Security, tests for Missouri driver’s license, beauty pageants, gymnastics/dance classes, weekly senior citizen dances, VA representative, SBA representative, vocational rehabilitation, Congresswoman JoAnn Emerson’s mobile office and various other community activities.  A regional music club, the Community Concert Association, also uses the Community Center as one of the sites for their concerts which range from jazz to classical.

Malden Community Center

The Malden Chamber of Commerce consists of approximately 165 members which include individuals and businesses.  Their main function is to distribute information and educate the public about Malden’s many assets.  They strive to improve Malden’s quality of life by sponsoring such events as the Malden Business and farm Expo, Malden in May BBQ, Hot Chili/Cool Cars, Christmas Spirit Award, Breakfast with Santa featuring Missouri’s largest Gingerbread House, and by sponsoring a Business of the Year competition.  The Malden Chamber Maids award a monthly yard-of-the-month and work on community beautification.  The Malden Chamber of Commerce is a member of the Missouri Chamber of Commerce Organization.

The Malden Library is a branch of the Dunklin County Library and offers all types of reading materials geared toward all age groups. The Malden Library operated for many years from an individual's residence prior to occupying its current location in 1967.

Malden placed first in the 1995, 1997, 1998 and 2000Missouri Community Betterment Contest for Category VI I.

The Malden Historical Museum was founded in 1955 and does not charge for admission.  Malden was founded in 1878 and has a rich history connected with the railroad, the lumber business and agriculture.  The Museum is staffed by volunteers.

Malden is the location for our area’s regional newspaper which has a publication of 11,000 and has won numerous excellence awards from the Missouri Press Association.

Information from the 200 census shows that Malden’s population of 4,782 is racially diverse with 73% Caucasian, 24% African-American and 3% other origins.

The climate in Malden has basically mild winters and warm summers.

A Retired Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) and the Dunklin County Transit Service (DCT) are located in Malden and provide needed services to the elderly and others needing assistance with meals or transportation.

Malden is the site for The Center for Family Services which offers family counseling and temporary housing to those in need.

American Legion

American Legion Post #293 finished construction of a new 12,000 square foot building in 1997.  The facility offers fine dining, bingo, dances and private parties with a seating capacity of 400.

A full-service landfill is located sixteen miles to the North of Malden.

The Malden area drainage needs are served by the Dunklin County Water Drainage System, the New Madrid Water Drainage System and the Little River Drainage District.

Malden’s government operates under the mayor-council system.  The City is divided into four wards with two councilmen elected from each ward for terms of two years.  The mayor is elected for four years.

Malden’s Police Department, consisting of fourteen (14) officers, provides the City of Malden with efficient and prompt service.  Officers utilize “Missouri Mules -- NCIC”, National Crime Information Center, for immediate access in circumstances which warrant checking on wanted persons or for vehicle license verifications.  Volunteer auxiliary officers also assist the Department. A new 5,200 square-foot facility complete with a sallyport, jail cells, and closed circut monitoring was built in 2006.

The Malden Fire Department has two Fire Stations and is staffed with four regular employees and seventeen volunteers.

Health Services in Malden include four medical clinics sponsored by area hospitals. a Chiropractor, two Dentists and an Optometrist.  The ambulance service for the area is also located in Malden.
