Malden is located in Dunklin County at 36°34 19″N 89°58′16″W (36.572045, -89.971133), in the Missouri Bootheel and the New Madrid Seismic Zone, about 25 miles (40 km) west of New Madrid and the Mississippi River meander around the Kentucky Bend. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 6.2 square miles (16.1 km²), all of it land.
As of the census of 2010 for MALDEN, there were 4,275 people, 1780 households, and 1,109 families residing in the city. The racial makeup of the city was 71.30 percent White, 25.10 percent African American, and 3.60 percent from other races. Of the 1,780 households 25.1 percent had children under the age of 18 living with them, 37.0 percent were married couples living together, 20.5 percent had a female householder with no husband present, and 37.7 percent were non-families. 32.6 percent of all households were made up of individuals and 14.0 percent had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.34 and the average family size was 2.94.
