Applying for Utilities
The City of Malden provides electric, water, sewer and trash to its citizens. Before utilities can be turned on, a deposit must be paid and a Utility Application must be completed. Renters are required to show a copy of their lease agreement for rental property. Homeowners must submit the front page of either their abstract or deed. Every person applying for utilities must present proof of identification such as a driver’s license. After completing application, the customer will be directed to City Hall where they will verify that all personal and real estate taxes have been paid, city stickers have been purchased and a $25.00 inspection fee has been collected. An inspection time will be set and, after approved inspection, services will be connected.
Billing and Payments
Utility bills are mailed on or before the 20th of every month and should be received by customers by the 23rd of each month. Utility customers should contact the Board of Public Works immediately if they do not receive the bill as scheduled. Utility bills are due by the 10th of each month. A five percent (5%) penalty is assessed on remaining balances if not paid by that date.
Bills must be paid or payment arrangements made by the 21st of each month, which is disconnect day for outstanding accounts. Any account not paid by 8:00 a.m. on the disconnect day will be assessed a $30.00 reconnect fee.
The Board of Public Works Office is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. until 5:00 p.m. and has a convenient drive-through window located on the east side of the building. Also for our customer’s convenience, a night-box is located on the northwest corner of the building for those customers unable to conduct business during normal business hours. The city accepts Visa, MasterCard, Discover, and debit card payments either in person or over the phone. Contact the Board of Public Works at (573) 276-2238 if you are interested in setting up an automatic payment through your bank, credit, or debit card.
